A. MD or MS
Most known postgraduate qualification of MBBS in India is MD or MS.MD stands for “Doctor of Medicine” and MS stands for “Master of Surgery”

Institute where students admit for these courses are generally recognized by MCI (Medical Council of India) or they are affiliated to MCI. Students completing these courses are eligible to practice in any state across India and also join the Medical Institutes as Faculty.
B. DNB (Diplomate of National Board)
Diplomate of National Board is the most popular postgraduate choice opted by medical Students these days. It is a 3 years’ Post Graduate course equivalent to MD/MS in India and It is also recognized by Medical Council of India & Medical Council of Maldives which allows a DNB doctor to practice anywhere across India and join Medical institutes as Faculty. Duration – 3 years (post MBBS), 5 years (for DNB Super speciality post MBBS) & 2 years (post PG Diploma)
C. Post Graduate Diploma
Many students opt for Post graduate Diplomas if MD/MS/DNB seats are not available for them. This course is widely available in various Medical Colleges and hospitals across India. Duration of these courses is 2 years. Institute where students admit for these courses are generally recognized by MCI (Medical Council of India) or they are affiliated to MCI. Students completing these courses are eligible to practice in any state across India and also join the Medical Institutes as Faculty after completion of DNB (Secondary) post PG Diploma.
